Why mod a Ninja 300

The Ninja 300 is a 296 cc twin with a deep 2013–2017 aftermarket: race bodywork, rearsets, suspension and ECU flashing are all listed. Vendor listings stop at 2017, so confirm fitment with the seller before ordering for the 2026 bike.

Ninja 300 street mods, in order

  1. Fit a fender eliminator

New Rage Cycles, Competition Werkes, Puig and Yoshimura list 2013–2017 kits; TST lists 2013–2016. The tail is one fitment across the run in most listings.

  2. Add sliders and spools

Woodcraft (under-bodywork frame sliders and swingarm spools), Puig R19, Shogun (no-cut sliders), Vortex V3 2.0 and Hotbodies list frame sliders for 2013–2017. GB Racing lists EX300 engine covers for 2014–2017 and a stator cover for 2014–2015, so confirm on a 2013.

  3. Choose an exhaust

Akrapovič (carbon fiber slip-on), Two Brothers M-2 (slip-on and full system), M4 (standard-mount slip-on) and Hindle (slip-on and full systems) list 2013–2017 exhausts. Yoshimura lists no R-77 slip-on for this bike.

  4. Fit adjustable levers

CRG lists folding and R/C Spectrum levers for 2013–2017, and Bonamici lists remote-adjuster levers for the Ninja 300/400/500 (2013–current).

  5. Upgrade the suspension

Kawasaki lists a 37 mm telescopic fork (4.7 in travel) and a Uni-Trak shock with 5-way preload (5.2 in). Öhlins lists a NIX 22 mm cartridge kit with springs and an S36 shock (S36HR1C1L) for 2013–2017, and Spears lists an Andreani Misano cartridge kit for the EX300 2013–2017.

  6. Change the windscreen

Zero Gravity lists Corsa, Double Bubble, SR and Sport Touring screens for 2013–2017; Puig lists a Z Racing screen and Hotbodies a windscreen for the same years.

Ninja 300 track build, in order

  1. Buy tires in the stock sizes

Stock is 110/70-17 front and 140/70-17 rear (Kawasaki). Confirm your tire choice is made in a 140/70 before planning around it.

  2. Fit clip-ons, a race throttle and grips

Woodcraft lists 2013–2017 clip-ons; Spears lists clip-ons with 2.5 in risers and a Domino XM2 race throttle kit for 2013–2017; TechSpec lists a Gripster tank-grip kit for 2013–2017.

  3. Put money into suspension

Öhlins lists a NIX 22 mm cartridge kit and an S36 shock for 2013–2017; Spears lists the Andreani Misano cartridge kit. Spring for your weight first.

  4. Refresh the brakes

One 290 mm petal disc with a two-piston caliper, and a 220 mm rear disc. Start with pads, a braided line and fresh fluid; Spears lists a rear braided line and an EBC floating front rotor for 2013–2017.

  5. Prepare the bike for track use

Woodcraft (complete rearset kit) or Vortex (adjustable V2) rearsets, Hotbodies or Armour Bodies race bodywork, GB Racing covers, and Driven captive wheel spacers and spools all list 2013–2017.

  6. Regear, then flash with a full system

Stock is a 520 chain with a 14T front and 42T rear sprocket; Vortex lists steel and aluminum sprockets for 2013–2017. Woolich lists a 2013–2017 package with a bench harness (the ECU comes off the bike) and FTECU lists Data Link flashing kits for 2013–2017.

Ninja 300 fitment by year (2013–2026)

  • EX300A (non-ABS)2013–2017

One generation start to finish: 296 cc twin, steel semi-double-cradle frame, 37 mm fork, single 290 mm petal disc. Colors and the KRT edition changed yearly while the hardware did not, so '2013–2017' listings are the norm. Certain 2013 bikes carry the ECU stall recall (NHTSA 13V-328). Community-reported: racers prefer the non-ABS bike.

  • EX300B (ABS)2013–2017

The same bike with ABS for about $300 more ($4,999 non-ABS versus $5,299 ABS on Kawasaki's 2017 page); check that a brake-line kit lists your ABS version. Curb weight 383.7 lb claimed (379.3 lb non-ABS, 2014 page). Kawasaki US now lists a 2026 Ninja 300 ABS ($4,999 MSRP) with the same 296 cc engine, 37 mm fork, 290/220 mm petal discs and 110/70-17 · 140/70-17 tires; vendor listings and Woolich coverage still stop at 2017.

  • EX400 (Ninja 400)2018–2023 (US)

A different platform, not an update: 399 cc engine, steel trellis frame, 41 mm fork, 310 mm front disc and a 150/60-17 rear tire (Kawasaki spec sheets; the 2023 Ninja 400 ABS sheet prints 150/70). Nothing structural crosses from the 300. The US Ninja 400 was replaced by the Ninja 500 for 2024.

Ninja 300 gotchas — read before buying

Caution: Certain 2013 bikes (Ninja 300 and 300 ABS built July 16, 2012 through April 27, 2013) were recalled for an ECU setting that could stall the engine on deceleration; dealers replaced the ECU (NHTSA 13V-328). Confirm the fix on a used 2013.
Caution: EX300A (non-ABS) and EX300B (ABS) are separate Kawasaki model codes, so check that a brake-line kit lists your version. Community-reported: racers build from the non-ABS bike.
Caution: Ninja 400 parts do not fit despite the name: new trellis frame, new engine, 41 mm fork, 310 mm disc, and a 150/60-17 rear tire (Kawasaki spec sheets). Treat any carry-over as unverified.
Caution: Ninja 250R (2008–2012) parts cross only piece by piece: Woodcraft's eccentric footpeg, Shogun's bar sliders, Yoshimura's rear offset brackets, Hotbodies' MGP rearsets and Spears' adjustable cam sprockets list the 250R and 300 together, while bodywork carries separate SKUs. Read each listing.
Caution: GB Racing lists its EX300 engine covers as 2014–2017. Whether that is a real 2013 difference or a listing quirk, verify fitment for a 2013 before ordering.
Caution: Kawasaki US lists a 2026 Ninja 300 ABS, but vendor listings and Woolich coverage stop at 2017. Ask the seller to confirm 2026 fitment before ordering.

Ninja 300 parts interchange

Reported by riders; verify before buying. Full chart → See also: Kawasaki Ninja 400 & Ninja 500.

  • Ninja 250R (2008–2012): Woodcraft's eccentric footpeg (2008–2017), Shogun's bar sliders (250/300 2008–2017), Yoshimura's rear offset brackets (300/250R), Hotbodies' MGP rearsets (250R/300R 2008–2017) and Spears' adjustable cam sprockets (EX250/300) are listed across both bikes (vendor-reported); race bodywork and sliders carry separate part numbers.
  • Ninja 400 (2018–2023): a different platform. Treat parts as non-interchangeable unless a listing names both bikes; TST, for example, lists one set of mirror block-off plates for the Ninja 300 (2013–2017) and the Ninja 400 (2018+).

Kawasaki Ninja 300 mods FAQ

Is the Ninja 300 a good beginner bike?

Yes: it makes about 39 hp claimed, has a 30.9 in seat and an assist/slipper clutch that softens clumsy downshifts (Kawasaki). Buy a 2014–2017 if you can, because certain 2013 bikes have the stall recall to verify.

Will Ninja 400 parts fit a Ninja 300?

No: the 400 has a new frame, engine, fork and wheel package, so exhausts, bodywork, rearsets, sliders and suspension do not cross. Treat any small-part carry-over as unverified and check the listing.

What should I upgrade first on a Ninja 300?

Sliders before your first drop, then springs for your weight: Öhlins and Spears list cartridge kits and shocks for 2013–2017. A fender eliminator and levers are quick, cheap additions.

Is an ECU flash worth it on a Ninja 300?

With a full system, yes. Woolich (bench harness) and FTECU both cover 2013–2017. With a stock exhaust or a slip-on, most riders skip it.

What is the Ninja 300 stalling recall?

NHTSA 13V-328: certain 2013 Ninja 300 and 300 ABS built July 2012 through April 2013 could stall under deceleration because of an ECU setting, and dealers replaced the ECU. Have a dealer run the VIN on any 2013; NHTSA lists no recalls for 2014–2017.
