Akrapovič lists O2-sensor fitting kits separately for 2019–2023 and 2024–2025, and states the Racing Line does not meet street or highway emission requirements. Why mod a CBR650R
The CBR650R shares its 649 cc four, frame, swingarm, fork and brakes with the CB650R, so most non-bodywork parts are listed for both bikes. Fitment splits at 2021 (fork) and 2024 (restyle and E-Clutch), so buy by year, not by model name.
CBR650R street mods, in order
Fit a fender eliminator
TST's Elite-1 kit lists the CB650R and CBR650R 2019–2023 on one part. The 2024 restyle brought a new seat unit and taillight (Honda), so look for a 2024+ listing before ordering for a newer bike.
Add sliders and check the right-hand cover
Puig R19 frame sliders come as 2019–2023 and 2024–2026 kits; Womet-Tech frame sliders list the CBR650R, CB650R, CBR650F and CB650F. On 2024+ bikes the E-Clutch actuator sits inside the right-hand engine cover, so confirm any right-side cover or slider kit lists E-Clutch bikes.
Choose a full system
Akrapovič (Racing Line) and Hindle (Evolution and Evo-Megaphone) list full systems for this bike; we found no slip-on from either. Akrapovič sells separate O2-sensor fitting kits for 2019–2023 and 2024–2025 bikes and marks the Racing Line as not emissions-compliant for street or highway use.
Swap levers and add grips
Womet-Tech's Evos shorty levers list the CBR650F, CB650F, CB650R and CBR650R on one kit; TechSpec Gripster tank grips list the CB650R and CBR650R 2019+. E-Clutch bikes keep a working clutch lever (Honda), so lever sets still apply. Check that a 2024+ listing names your bike.
Change the windscreen
Puig's Z Racing windscreen lists the CBR650R 2019–2026 as one part.
Decide on a quickshifter by year
2019–2023 manual-clutch bikes: Honda Europe lists an accessory quick shifter for the CBR650R (confirm US availability with a Honda dealer), and Woolich sells a plug-and-play quickshifter package for 2018–2019 CB650R/CBR650R. 2024+ E-Clutch bikes shift up and down without the clutch lever (Honda), so skip it.
CBR650R track build, in order
Set sag and pressures, then buy tires
Stock sizes are 120/70-ZR17 on a 3.5-inch rim and 180/55-ZR17 on a 5.5-inch rim (Honda Europe spec), so standard sport and track tires in those sizes fit without a wheel change. Honda's US spec sheets list sizes only, not the OE brand.
Refresh the brakes
The radial-mount Nissin four-piston calipers and 310 mm floating discs stay. EBC lists Double-H sintered front pads for 2019–2024. Add braided lines, fresh fluid and a lever guard; check your track-day organizer's rules on guards.
Spring the fork, then fit a shock
Öhlins lists an STX46 shock (S46HR1C1) for 2019–2024. Up front, start with springs for your weight. The fork is an SFF on 2019–2020 bikes and an SFF-BP from 2021, so buy fork parts by year.
Check rearset listings by year
We found no rearset kit for the CBR650R at Sportbike Track Gear; ask a vendor to confirm your year before ordering. On E-Clutch bikes Honda's system reads pressure on the shift pedal, so choose a kit that lists E-Clutch fitment.
Protect the covers and axles
GB Racing lists a CBR650R engine cover set and alternator cover for 2021–2023 (its CB650R sets run to 2025); Puig lists front axle sliders for 2019–2026. On 2024+ bikes the right-hand cover houses the E-Clutch actuator.
Regear, then flash with a full system
Stock is a #525 chain with a 15T front and 42T rear sprocket. SprocketCenter lists 525 kits and 520 conversion kits for 2019–2026; the usual track change is one tooth down in front or two to three up in the rear. Pair a full system with an ECU flash: Woolich lists 2018–2020, 2021 and 2022–2026 definitions.
CBR650R fitment by year (2014–2026)
- CBR650F2014–2018
The predecessor: 649 cc four with a conventional Showa fork (Dual Bending Valve from 2017), dual 320 mm discs with two-piston Nissin calipers, and different bodywork and ergonomics. Bodywork and screens do not cross to the R. Some engine-side parts do: Akrapovič lists one full system for the CBR650F/R and CB650F/R 2014–2020, and Womet-Tech sliders and levers list all four 650s.
- 2019–2020 (launch)2019–2020
CBR650F becomes CBR650R: 41 mm Showa SFF inverted fork, radial-mount four-piston Nissin calipers on 310 mm floating discs, assist/slipper clutch, clip-ons moved under the top clamp, LCD with gear-position and shift-up indicators, redline raised 1,000 rpm to 12,000. US 2019 bikes came with or without ABS, and HSTC traction control only on the ABS version; Honda US's 2020 spec sheet lists only the ABS version.
- 2021–2023 update2021–2023
Showa SFF-BP (big piston) fork replaces the SFF, which Honda calls a major upgrade to the front suspension, so fork internals are year-specific. Euro 5 changes touched the ECU, cam lobes, intake timing, exhaust and catalyzer. New side panels and plate holder, and a clearer LCD. Woolich keeps a separate 2021 ECU definition.
- 2024+ (E-Clutch)2024–present
New bodywork with a slanted LED headlight and new taillight, a 5-inch optically bonded TFT, revised ECU and catalyzer, and Honda E-Clutch: a two-motor actuator inside the right-hand engine cover. Honda US lists the 2024, 2025 and 2026 CBR650R as one E-Clutch version; Honda Europe sold E-Clutch as an option. Slider, tail-tidy and O2-fitting-kit listings split here.

CBR650R parts interchange
Reported by riders; verify before buying. Full chart → See also: Honda CB650R.
- CB650R: same engine, frame, swingarm, fork (with the same 2021 split), brakes and 15T/42T #525 drivetrain, so non-bodywork parts cross within a year range. Vendors list both bikes on shared SKUs (TST tail tidy, Womet-Tech sliders and levers, TechSpec grips, Akrapovič and Hindle full systems). Bodywork, screens, headlight-area parts and the bar setup differ.
- CBR650F/CB650F (2014–2018): Akrapovič lists a single full system for the F and R models 2014–2020, and Womet-Tech lists sliders and levers across all four 650s. Bodywork, screens and ergonomic parts do not cross.
Honda CBR650R mods FAQ
Is the CBR650R a good first bike?
Yes, if you are comfortable with a 466 lb bike making about 94 hp claimed. It has an assist/slipper clutch and switchable HSTC traction control, and 2024+ bikes add an E-Clutch that prevents stalling (Honda).
Do CB650R parts fit the CBR650R?
Most non-bodywork parts do: the two bikes share engine, frame, swingarm, fork and brakes, and vendors list both on shared SKUs. Match the year ranges, because both split at 2021 (fork) and 2024 (restyle, E-Clutch). Screens, headlight-area parts and the bar setup differ.
Slip-on or full system on the CBR650R?
Full system: Akrapovič and Hindle list full systems for this bike and we found no slip-on from either. Akrapovič's Racing Line is not street-compliant per its own listing, and its O2 fitting kit is listed separately for 2019–2023 and 2024–2025. Pair a full system with a flash (Woolich lists 2018–2020, 2021 and 2022–2026).
Can you mod a 2024+ CBR650R E-Clutch?
Yes. Tires, brakes, suspension and tail tidies are unaffected. Covers and some sliders must list E-Clutch bikes because the actuator sits in the right-hand engine cover; rearsets must list E-Clutch fitment because the system reads shift-pedal pressure; and a quickshifter adds nothing because the system already shifts without the clutch lever.
What changed on the 2021 CBR650R?
The Showa SFF-BP fork replaced the SFF. Honda also revised the ECU, cam lobes, intake timing, exhaust and catalyzer for Euro 5, and added new side panels and plate holder and a clearer LCD. It looks the same, so buy fork parts by year; Woolich keeps a separate 2021 ECU definition.
