Why mod a GSX-8S

The GSX-8S shares its engine, frame, brakes and electronics with the GSX-8R, so most bolt-on parts are listed for both bikes. The KYB fork (the 8R has a Showa SFF-BP), the tapered bar and the lack of a fairing are 8S-specific.

GSX-8S street mods, in order

  1. Fit a fender eliminator

Yoshimura's V2 kit (with LED signals) lists the GSX-8S/8R 2023–2026; New Rage Cycles lists the 8S 2023–2026 and Puig lists kits for the 8S. TST's Elite-1 kits list the 8S 2023 in high and low mount.

  2. Add protection

Woodcraft (frame sliders, axle sliders, cover protectors) and TST (frame sliders, water-pump cover protector) list the 8S; Puig lists R19 and Pro 2.0 frame sliders for the 8S 2023, and GB Racing lists 8S covers for 2023–2026. Womet-Tech lists fork sliders and bar ends.

  3. Fit levers, a windscreen and grips

ASV's F3 and C5 sport levers list the 8S 2023–2026, and R&G lists a brake-lever guard. Puig lists New Generation Sport and Touring windscreens for the 8S 2023. TechSpec lists Gripster tank grips for the 8S 2023 and 8R 2024.

  4. Choose an exhaust by what it replaces

Suzuki puts the catalytic converter inside the mid-pipe; the exhaust then flows into an under-chassis chamber and a short right-side muffler. Akrapovič and Arrow list homologated systems that include a catalytic converter; Akrapovič's GP and Racing Line systems and LeoVince's LV-14 R and LV Race are listed as not street-legal. Yoshimura's AT2 is 6.5 lb lighter than stock (Yoshimura via TST).

  5. Flash if you fit a full system

TST's WORX Performance ECU tune (mail-in) covers the 8S 2023–2026: it unrestricts the throttle valve in mode A and disables the O2, PAIR, front-wheel-speed and EVAP fault codes. TST labels it closed-course only and says it is written for aftermarket full systems. Dynojet lists a Power Commander 6 for the 8S.

  6. Upgrade the suspension

Suzuki lists a cam-style preload adjuster on the shock and no fork adjusters. Öhlins lists a NIX30 Street cartridge kit for the 8S (Kayaba fork) and an STX 46 shock for both bikes; TST sells Nitron's NTR R3 shock. Start with springs for your weight.

GSX-8S track build, in order

  1. Buy tires in the stock sizes

Stock is Dunlop Roadsport 2 in 120/70ZR17 on a 17 × 3.5 in rim and 180/55ZR17 on a 17 × 5.5 in rim (Suzuki), so track tires in those sizes need no wheel change.

  2. Refresh the brake consumables

The Nissin radial four-piston calipers are the same as the 8R's. Add pads, fluid, a braided line (Spiegler lists brake lines for the 8S 2023–2024) and a lever guard.

  3. Spring the suspension for your weight

Fit fork springs or the Öhlins NIX30 Street cartridge kit (the 8S kit, not the 8R's Showa kit) and a shock (Öhlins STX 46, Nitron NTR R3) matched to your weight and pace.

  4. Move the controls

Woodcraft lists complete rearsets for the 8S/8R in standard and GP shift that reuse the OEM quickshifter; Gilles Tooling lists AS31GT3 rearsets (2023–2024); TST lists riser brackets. TechSpec lists tank grips.

  5. Prepare the bike for track use

GB Racing lists 8S covers for 2023–2026 and swingarm spools, Woodcraft lists axle sliders, and Woodcraft and Armour Bodies list superbike seat-base and tail parts.

  6. Regear, then add a full system and flash

Stock is a 525 chain with a 17T front and 47T rear sprocket. Driven lists a 520 kit and Vortex a 520 aluminum rear sprocket for the 8S/8R 2023–2026. Pair a full system with the TST flash.

GSX-8S fitment by year (GSX-8S)

  • GSX-8S2023–present

One hardware spec so far: the 776 cc twin in a steel backbone frame with a steel subframe and aluminum swingarm, a KYB 41 mm inverted fork with no adjusters listed and a preload-adjustable KYB link-type shock (Suzuki's 2023–2024 pages), Nissin radial four-piston calipers, a bi-directional quickshifter and a 5-inch TFT; 445 lb (202 kg) curb. Homologated for MotoAmerica Twins Cup in January 2024 alongside the 8R. Suzuki's 2025, 2026 and 2027 pages list the same specs, so every year shares one parts search; NHTSA lists no recalls on the 8S as of September 2026.

GSX-8S gotchas — read before buying

Caution: Read what an exhaust listing replaces: Suzuki's cat sits in the mid-pipe, so homologated systems (Akrapovič, Arrow) include a cat while Akrapovič's Racing Line and GP systems, LeoVince's systems and Arrow's Competition EVO are listed as not street-legal. Vendors disagree on whether a tune is needed (Akrapovič's listing says no remap; TST says the bike runs lean and throws codes), so plan for a flash if you fit a full system.
Caution: TST's flash covers North American 8S ECUs 2023–2026, is labelled closed-course and is written for aftermarket full systems, not a stock-exhaust smoothing flash. Keep your stock ECU file.
Caution: Fork parts are not shared with the 8R: KYB here, Showa SFF-BP there. Öhlins' NIX30 Street (8S) and NIX30 Supersport (8R) kits, springs and fork sliders are model-specific even when a listing says 'GSX-8S/8R'.
Caution: Suzuki names KYB on its 2023 and 2024 8S pages but not on its 2025 to 2027 pages, which list only 'inverted telescopic' and 'link type'. Confirm the suspension maker before buying a fork or shock kit for a newer bike.
Caution: Suzuki files the model as 'GSX800' at NHTSA, so recall searches by 'GSX-8S' return nothing; search by VIN. As of September 2026 NHTSA lists no US recalls on the 8S; the 2024 chain recall (24V-081) was 8R-only.

GSX-8S parts interchange

Reported by riders; verify before buying. Full chart → See also: Suzuki GSX-8R.

  • GSX-8R: frame, engine, brakes, wheels and electronics are shared, and Woodcraft rearsets, TST tune and protection, ASV levers, Yoshimura V2 and Öhlins' STX 46 all list both bikes. Fork internals, bars and fairing parts don't cross (vendor-listed and reviewer-reported).
  • GSX-8T and GSX-8TT (2026): Suzuki lists them on the 8S family; Puig lists front axle sliders for the 8S, 8R and 8TT 2023–2026. Verify anything else per listing.
  • V-Strom 800/800DE: GB Racing lists engine covers for the GSX-8R/S and V-Strom 800DE together, so engine-adjacent parts cross; chassis parts don't.

Suzuki GSX-8S mods FAQ

What are the first mods for a GSX-8S?

Tail tidy and flush signals, frame sliders and case covers, levers and a windscreen are the usual first round; the protection, lever and tail parts are listed for both the 8S and 8R. Suspension sprung for your weight is the first mod that changes how it rides; the exhaust changes how it sounds.

Does a GSX-8S exhaust need a tune?

Vendors disagree. Akrapovič's listing says no remap is required, while TST says removing the stock exhaust makes the 8S/8R run lean and set fault codes and sells a flash for it. Suzuki's cat is in the mid-pipe, so check whether a listing replaces it.

GSX-8S or GSX-8R for modding?

Either works, because the bikes share most bolt-on parts. The 8S has no fairing, a tapered bar and a KYB fork; the 8R adds a full fairing, separate handlebars and a Showa SFF-BP fork, and Öhlins lists a different cartridge kit for each (NIX30 Street for the 8S, NIX30 Supersport for the 8R).

Is the GSX-8S fork adjustable?

Suzuki lists no fork adjusters and a preload adjuster on the shock only. Öhlins' NIX30 Street kit, made for the 8S's Kayaba fork, adds compression and rebound adjustment, and Öhlins' STX 46 shock lists both bikes.

Are there recalls on the GSX-8S?

None on the 8S as of September 2026. The one GSX-8 recall (NHTSA 24V-081, missing chain rivets) covered 360 GSX-8Rs from the 2024 model year. Suzuki files both bikes as 'GSX800' at NHTSA, so search by VIN rather than model name.
